Now that the March airdrops have finished and more GEN is in the hands of the community, I think now is a good time to talk about the future and where Genesis should go from here.

Since we first launched in October 2017, we've seen steady growth in the community and what we have built so far is something we can all be proud off. However I'm sure that all of you will agree that it's important that we focus on the future and work on giving Genesis a long-term use which will hopefully in turn raise our profile, trading volume and for the investors, price.

The crypto market in 2018 hasn't been great and that has definitely had an impact on nearly every project out there, including Genesis. I'm confident that it will turn itself round and we'll see another surge but nothing is guaranteed. Therefore it is important that we focus on ourselves and not let ourselves be influenced too much on the wider market. We're only a small fish in a big pond right now, after all.

Not only that, but as some, hopefully most, of you will be aware, I'm the only person working on Genesis, with the exception of a few people who have chipped in over the previous months. This isn't my full-time job so time can be shorter some weeks than others to focus on Genesis. I've always prided myself on being honest and open with the Genesis community and right now I'm busy working on a major project which is taking up nearly all of my time. I want to reiterate that I am committed to Genesis and always will be but time is short currently. Through my work on this project, I am trying to secure a meaningful partnership for Genesis, but I can't comment too much or make any promises.

Over the last few weeks, I have reached out to several companies and projects regarding partnerships but unfortunately I haven't had much luck. It sucks and probably isn't what you want to hear, but the reality of the situation is that the crypto scene is very competitive and as I've found out, driven by money. Money that I just don't have to pay. It's the same situation with exchanges. If only we were a year or so earlier, perhaps we'd be having a lot more luck. From what I've seen, going down the honest and open route is harder than making outlandish promises, manipulating investors, lying and over-exaggerating your project as a lot of projects tend to be doing these days, big and small. It is demoralising at times seeing the success others gain through dishonest practices. That's something I will never compromise on and hopefully that's one of the reasons you joined the Genesis community in the first place.

With all of that said, the earth keeps spinning and life goes on. And so does Genesis. Crypto is here to stay and so are we. We just need to decide on the direction we all feel that Genesis needs to head in. Having taken some time out to think about what options are realistically on the table for Genesis, I have come up with a few potential ideas for where Genesis will go from here. I will outline each direction below and it will be great if you could vote for the option you would like to see.

Please read each option carefully and then vote for your preferred option.

Option 1 - Push merchant adoption of Genesis as a valid currency

This option would see us trying to push merchant adoption for Genesis. It's main aim would be to be used as a currency which merchants could accept for products.

This could be done in a number of ways, including building partnerships with startups and ICOs, particularly those which are aimed at creating marketplaces and stores where Genesis could perhaps be used as a currency. Through these partnerships, there could be incentives for paying with GEN too.

Option 2 - dApp Development

This option would be the most time-consuming but would ultimately see us develop a dApp around Genesis. As a community we'd have to decide what would be a  meaningful and useful dApp to create. Stuff like exchanges etc have been done to death so we would need something more unique.

One idea could be centred around building up and producing a collection of cryptocurrency guides which could be purchased, or unlocked, with Genesis Coins.

If you think Option 2 is where we should go and you have some suggestions for a dApp, please leave a reply to this thread with your suggestions.

Option 3 - Focus on the Genesis Forum

With this option, our immediate focus would be on the Genesis forum. This would involve trying to grow numbers and activity as well as doing more with the store itself, perhaps offering more services or ways to spend your Genesis Coins.

If you like this option, please leave suggestions of things you would like to see done to the forum to improve it.

Option 4 - Create a Genesis Store where products and services are paid for with Genesis

This option would need to be fleshed out and really planned but it would basically see us creating a store for Genesis where products and services are bought and sold for using GEN.

To be honest, this seems like a tricky thing to pull off as we'd need to consider whether or not it's an open marketplace where anyone can join and sell or whether or not it is all done through us where we have to source and offer the products and services ourselves.

Respect your works, Jackson! :x

I think option 1 is the best. If it can't be true, option 4 is good at all.

Jackson, thanks for asking us. My feedback:

-Option 1, too common. So many other coins do the same...

-Option 2, Good, depending on the purpose of the dApp. There are too many little exchanges, although if you could pull up a small exchange just for Genesis/fiat that'd be great. E-learning platforms are also quite common, if we choose this route we should specialise on something instead of making it general (Another project is already doing crypto e-learning) maybe we should go for a translation platform with freelancers from every country offering translation services and getting paid on GENs. A game based dApp could be also very lucrative (Kittens anyone) we just need to come up with the right idea. Betting dApps are also popular but seems too complex...

-Option 3, The genesis forum will keep growing and should not be abandon but I am not sure how it can sustain the Genesis token by it's own.

-Option 4, the forum already has an store, we could expand this and include GEN merchandise. Maybe talk to companies like Moonpig.com?

I hope some of if is useful or at least takes us to some other ideas!

I'd like to add I believe we need a stronger marketing team to make it to the masses.

Keep up the good job!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, it's greatly appreciated. There's definitely pros and cons to every option so I'll let it run for a bit longer to get as much feedback and votes as possible and then we can go from there.

I agree with the marketing, the truth is we could do with additional people helping out in roles such as that. If anyone is interested and has skills that are useful to the project please let me know. I can offer payments in GEN and may be a good opportunity to gain some experience or build up your reputation as you can always use what you've done here for future roles elsewhere

I think you should first set up a team. It must be from people who speak different languages from different countries. You should first introduce the project. For example, I do not speak English. Therefore, I can not use this forum site actively. You need money for 1 and 2 options. To be able to make the 4th option, this forum should have more participants. I think the way out is on the 3rd option. You should set up a team first. It's hard on its own.

i voted for the first option but we indeed need some more activity in here to get the gen coin known. but all 4 are great action to take

This is a tough one to be honest:

Option 1 is too common in the market nowadays. If Genesis is to survive & thrive, it'll need a unique selling point so needs to do something either original or at least better than 99% of the direct competitors out there. The partnerships would need to be very strong with a practical use case which I imagine would be hard to achieve.

Option 2 is my preferred option, although I don't really have an idea of what the meaningful & useful dApp could be. I also appreciate this is propbably the most time intensive of all the options, but if done well would provide the best future for the project.

Option 3 I like but see this forum as supplementary support for the project rather than the main focus. The strength of this project is really around the great community that has been built & the forum definitely supports that. Unfortunately the last few months have seen the forum go fairly quiet, but the Christmas giveaway event shows how effective engaging community prizes/giveaways/challenges can be to drive traffic through the forum & grow the community. For reference on what can be done, I like what Equal Token have been doing with their regular trivia nights where they give away tokens, or their ongoing community challenge (https://twitter.com/EqualToken/status/988263005660971008).

Option 4 could be interesting but it does seem it would be a hell of a lot of work to get up & running smoothly with no guarantee that the effort put in would be rewarded.

Thanks for your response @Nefarious :) What you've outlined is pretty much how I feel about each option to be honest. With regards to Option 2 and Option 4, I have lots of possible ideas but the problem comes down to being unique and actually solving a problem. As novel as something like crypto kitties is for example, is there a need for something similar and would it justify the time? Then as you say, if it is achieved it's probably the best thing for the future.

The truth is, it's pretty hard being a community token unless you have a unique platform and really pushing boundaries which is easier said than done. Not only that, but as I've come to realise other the past few months is that the infrastructure needed to make using ERC20 tokens is pretty hard to find. I'm not sure on the reason why exactly considering how popular they are and how large some of the projects are.

I'm going to write up an update soon explaining a bit more about where I'm at in the process and what options I am looking at that could be viable.

while you all do the hard stuff I will continue to broadcast as much as I can on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter. I want to market as much as I can to get some interest in what this project is and can be. I also agree we need somehow to get the members involved more but how is the question. I have posted to newbies and guests in hopes of getting some responses, but so far I see none. Yes it has been quiet and that's not a good thing. I was very busy but tried to check in every now and again. I have returned to duty, Ha Ha.

Missed everyone. Hoping to hear from all my great friends here soon. I am with you and maybe need some suggestions on how to help more in the group.

I voted #2  I also believe we need a marketing strategy because it really is important in getting the word out. I thought about the community but seems lately the people that have joined are missing and we need to build, but somehow keep more interest because it seems we are losing members imput,  so that is why I voted option 2. It would be good to have a product that could be purchased with the coin but that limits those who want the product but do not have the coins to make the purchases. A gaming company may be a good way to go. Where if they have to buy gen coins to continue in a game or buy something needed to continue as in many games already using some kind of token.

All I can say is I am sorry you have a lot on your plate and I commend you. Wishing you good luck in this endeavor. If I can help in any way I will try. JFYI  I am doing a lot to advertise the coin every chance I get.

Imo, second option is the best one to promote the project. Like others said, dApp should solve real world project, so that it could bring new people into our community and crypto in general. For now I can think of streaming platform with subscriptions, so that users could get rewards for qualitative material easily. Unfortunately, such projects are really hard to implement and expensive to maintain. At least, for now.

Speaking of shop, it is really great module that should develop further. It is a great chance for photographers, writers, musicians, programmers etc. to sell their digital products. Unique content is preferable, so that Genesis store will stand out of other cryptocurrencies. In any case, thanks for updates and good luck with the project!
